Nomad releases two apps for iPhone

Nomad Mobile Guides™, a spin-off company of NewCity, is excited to introduce quality, interactive mobile guides for iPhone and iTouch users with the new successful release of the Great Smoky Mountains applications, developed in cooperation with the Great Smoky Mountains Association and National Park Service.

Two different applications are available for visitors to enjoy. The “FREE Smokies Visitor Guide” contains a welcome guide from the National Park Service, including popular destinations and activities like camping, biking and fishing. In addition, it offers a GPS-enabled National Park Service map, which is also available without cell or wi-fi signal.

The second application is the “Best of the Smokies Mobile Guide Bundle”, which contains 5 additional guides plus the Trail Map.

  • Smokies Visitor Guide - free content from the National Park Service
  • Cades Cove Tour- guided tour tells the story of the people and the cove
  • Day Hikes Sampler- hike 32 favorite trails
  • Waterfalls of the Smokies- walk or drive to breathtaking waterfalls
  • Auto Touring in the Smokies- tour five of the Smokies’ most scenic roads
  • Self-Guiding Nature Trails- enjoy quiet walkways and nature trails
  • GPS-enabled Park & Trail Map- NPS map enhanced with detailed hiking trails

The apps provide information on places to go, sights to see, and act as a useful navigation system for visitors’ convenience. As stated in an article in the Knoxville News Sentinel titled “iPhone app helps visitors in Smokies”, GSMA Executive Director Terry Maddox is pleased with this innovation and offered some insights on the development of these apps. In addition to the apps, there is an opportunity to enter into the GSMA Contest. Just follow three simple steps, and you might be the winner of the grand prize of a $200 REI gift card or Ken Burns: The National Parks DVD, CD and book set! Contestants are asked to purchase this Best of the Smokies “must-have” app, write a review providing honest opinions about their experience with it,  and fill out a form on the Nomad website. Check out this page for more details about the GSMA Contest.

Just a few days after the kickoff of this contest, the mobile apps have already received a considerable amount of attention and support from GSMA members and users alike. Nomad is very excited and confident that more and more users will find GSMA’s Best of the Great Smoky Mountains App and FREE Smokies Visitor Guide to be innovative and helpful because, as one customer stated, “this is what a travel app should be.”
